ACH Webinar: Empathy in the Exam Room: A blend of Science, Stories, and Movies
It is becoming more and more difficult to be a Doctor due to Time Constraints; Pre-authorization; Regulations; EMR; etc. All leading to More and More Physician Burnout but it has always been very difficult to be a Patient.

Sadly nowadays, due to all of the above miseries that plague Doctors and the System, it is becoming more and more difficult to be a Patient!

This webinar will discuss the causes of the eroding trust that patients used to hold towards their doctors, and the problem of lack of enough empathy amongst many doctors (if not the majority). The webinar will include personal reflections by the speaker, having been both doctor and patient. The webinar will discuss impediments to empathy in the exam room, and then tools and methods to enhance empathy amongst doctors. The webinar takes a non-traditional approach, utilizing stories as well as movies and other approaches towards the quest to a better doctor-patient relationship and communication. Doctor-patient communication has been negatively affected by the advent of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). In some ways, EMR has taken doctors from their patients, and so it has dehumanized the doctor-patient relationship: The webinar will discuss this very issue and will present tools to “Humanize EMR”!

Another concept to be discussed is the Question: what will happen when the Doctor becomes the Patient…!?
